Tupac buys car while hacker brings 100 cars to a halt

Drivers in Austin,Texas thought their cars were possessed when their horns started honking in the middle of the night or their vehicles simply wouldn’t start. But it seems the culprit was a hacker exploiting a system used by auto dealers to immobilise the vehicles of people behind with their payments. Police yesterday arrested 20-year-old Omar Ramos-Lopez, who was laid off from Texas Auto Center in February. “We initially  dismissed it as mechanical failure,” Texas Auto Center manager Martin Garcia told Wired. “We started having a rash of up to a hundred customers at one time complaining. Some customers complained of the horns going off in the middle of the night. The only option they had was to remove the battery.” The immobilization system, from a company called PayTeck, http://www.payteck.cc/ is installed by many dealers as an alternative to repossession. It can be used to disable the car’s ignition or start the horn. Ramos-Lopez allegedly used a former colleague’s login to activate the system, first picking out specific customers and then starting to work his way through the entire database alphabetically. More than 100 owners were affected.

According to Associated Press, the havoc didn’t end there. The hacker also had some fun changing customer names, with staff surprised to find that dead rapper Tupac Shakur had apparently recently bought a car.

The estate of Michael Jackson has agreed the biggest recording deal in history, worth more than $200 million with Sony Music, US reports say. The deal reportedly involves 10 album projects over seven years – including one of previously unreleased material. The singer died at his Los Angeles home in June, aged 50.
He was due to stage a series of comeback concerts in Britain. Michael Jackson’s death was ruled as homicide, mainly caused by the use of the anaesthetic Propofol. The contract with Sony could be worth up to $250m if certain conditions are met, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday, citing sources close to the deal. It reflects sales of Jackson’s music and memorabilia – which have sky-rocketed in the months since his death, making the late star one of the biggest-earning acts of last year, says the BBC’s Rajesh Mirchandani in Los Angeles. Sony has sold about 31 million copies of Jackson’s albums worldwide since his death on 25 June, the report said. His estate may soon be able to pay off some of the huge debts he left behind, our correspondent adds. According to US media, Jackson also left behind dozens of new songs, which may be released, along with revamped packages of old hits. More details are expected in an official announcement later on Tuesday, but the contract is reported to include the soundtrack to the recent film, This Is It. The footage showed Jackson rehearsing for his comeback tour just days before his death from an overdose of an anaesthetic. His doctor, Conrad Murray, who told police he had prescribed Propofol for insomnia, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of manslaughter. He has always maintained that he neither prescribed nor administered anything that should have killed the singer.

THE WU MASSACRE RELEASE DATE

Method Man, Raekwon and Ghostface Killah’s highly-speculated collaboration album will now land in stores on March 30th. But i am hearing rumors that Def Jam rushed the project, and that would be fked up if they tried to sabotage this project because this has the potential to be one of the top hip hop albums of 2010.

I am digging the artwork and i didnt even know until today that the album design is created by Marvel Comics artist Chris Bachalo, one of my favorite comic artists. Hopefully this album will further bring to the  forefront that essence of true hip hop lyrics & production.
